Important Lesson from my Mom

When I went to study in a different state, my Mom told me " Now you will be all alone in a place where no one is going to watch what you do. Always treat girls with respect". It was the first and last time someone told me about that. I was a bit uncomfortable then to reply back to her, so just nodded in affirmation.

But, I guess, that  message, helped me a lot and I consider it as an important lesson from my Mom.

Since, it came from her so the intensity was everlasting. I really feel parents must  impart small but vital lessons like this to their teenagers.

  • Before I die, I want to laugh at the things that made me cry, some things were so stupid, I would realize, I'm sure.
  • Before I die, I want to reflect on my life and write a book.
  • Before I die, I must motivate many people, encourage them, cheer them and make them smile when they are sad. I have to sell smiles all my life, free of cost!
  • Before I die, I want to be healthy in my olden days, so that I can rest in my comfort chair and cherish the memories and experiences that I would acquire by then.
  • Before I die, I want to live a month without complaining about the system, government or anything.
  • Before I die, I must be the best son for my parents ( tough competition from my brother), best friends for some of my friends, best brother for my siblings and cousins, best hubby for my would be and best Dad, (no that I can't became as I won't beat my Dad).
  • Before I die, I want to create memories and leave my footprints.

Easiest way to catch if someone is lying

Because, you have asked for the easiest way so I have to let you know.

Because, lies can't be hidden for long, someday they will surface on it's own so, let it be.

Because, you have to make the lier believe that you have buyed their logic, so they feel they have fooled you. So, you make them less conscious of their lies. They make their lies obvious someday.

Because, I am the biggest lier in my life, I keep telling myself lies. I keep fooling myself into believing something which is not true.

Because, I love the lies I tell myself, because, my lies give me hope and courage (to some extend), because lying is not bad, always. I keep telling lies, keep fooling myself, it makes me happy. So, why would I try to find the lies I tell myself. Let it be a lie, till it will be a reality someday.

Because lying to others is not bad ( always) if it help them overcome some setback. Because giving some hope for things to improve is not bad. Maybe it's not the lying in the sense you are talking about.

Because some truth are so harsh that they can shatter me, because I want to be a fool and live in my own's fool paradise. I will not try to find lies. If I notice them, I will keep mum. I will evaluate the gravity of the lie, the intention of the lier and then decide on future course of action. Sometimes patience is the easiest way to find lies of others and you needn't find the lies you tell to yourself.

How to get over addiction of social network like Quora?

The cure of one pain is another pain, the cure of one addiction is another addiction :)

Get addicted to some of these and you would have less time to spend on quora:
    • Focus on your life goals
    • Pamper your loved ones
    • Pursue your other hobbies
    • Do some physical activity.
    • Start Morning Walk/Jogging
    • Go to a park and Listen to chirping of birds
    • Watch kids playing and remember your childhood
    • Spend some time with old people. They feel lonely as everyone is running their own race and they are often neglected. Talk to them.
    • Go out and explore the world
    • Do some offline volunteering/join an NGO
    • Visit an orphanage
    • Go to a Temple/Gurudwara/Church/Mosque as per your choice and sit there for sometime.
    • Play with a cat/dog in your locality
    • Call your Parents.
    • Don't run behind people who don't value you. Rather love those who have always stayed for you. Forever! Some good people who loved you have been almost forgotten. Isn't it! Think. Act.

    Don't be an Emotional Fool?

Someone is sick of you but they won't tell you. They don't want to hurt you. But, they don't want to be with you. You keep wondering a slight change in their behavior but you stayed positive. You are getting anxious about what is going on but you don't have the guts to grab the bull by the horns. You are left puzzled and confused. One day, you came to know that slowly someone is trying to go away. They are finding ways to be polite and nice while saying good bye, or may be they won't greet good bye. They thought you are fool enough not to find out. They were innocent enough to think that it won't hurt you. It is a worst feeling to know that people have to try hard to be nice to you. They are just being nice. They have to fake it. But, why they want to go away. Who will bell the cat? You don't have the guts, right!

Health must be the Top Priority in Life

My youngest cousin is a first year student in Bhubaneswar. He got terribly sick with fever of 105 deg F  and was admitted to Hospital yesterday.

I got to know that the Hospital was not admitting him as they wanted a deposit of INR 40,000/-. We asked his friend to negotiate with the hospital and get him admitted. Then transferring the renegotiated amount of 10000/- in his account was a herculean task last night.

I was with his elder brother and we had to struggle to find an ATM of the same bank in which he had account. We didn't had his account added for Immediate fund transfer through Netbanking,

What a miserable feeling when you have the money but you can't send someone who need it.

His Dad and Uncle would reach in sometime to his place.  Dude, take care of health, it makes the life of parents and loved one hell when we fall seriously ill. Just  fifteen days ago, another cousin who is in Gwalior got Malaria. Guys,Spend lavishly on taking good care of your health else you end up spending huge money on hospital bills and wasting time.

Now, I have four serious priorities. It can be applicable for you as well:
    • Health- Build immunity. Follow up with my siblings, cousins and friends and make them  sensitize towards taking good care of themselves. Before giving them free advice, I need to take care of my health as I also take it for granted. Guys, stay away from Hospitals :)
    • Stay Safe from Diseases/Infections- Beware of DENGU, MALARIA, SWINE FLU, etc. Read about these diseases, their symptoms, precautions, etc. Make your friends and family aware of it. Don't ignore Diseases as they don't have ego and they don't spare anyone.
    • Money- I need to add the accounts of my loved ones for fund transfers through netbanking so that I can mobilize fund when in need.
    • Contact Numbers of 4-5 friends of your loved ones-  Every now and then, Mom would call me to tell that my brother is not picking call or my sister is not picking calls. So, I would ask both to whatsapp the numbers of their friends.  Hope this might help when Mom Panics!

Why there is hatred in Bangalore for North Indians?

    Bangaloreans are awesome people

I am a North Indian. I hope this answer will be helpful to people who have a feeling of being hated in Bangalore. Please only read further if you believe or want to believe that “Bangaloreans are awesome people”.

Do you hate Traffic in Bangalore?

I was newly born baby when I went to Bangalore for the first time with Mom and Dad. After 20 years, we again went to Bangalore and my Mom & Dad were dumbstruck to see how much it has changed in last 20 years. Ask a local and they would tell you more about it. Bangalore was a peaceful place which was less crowded. Now, due to the IT Revolution, people from other states moved in and hence you have traffic. It will ease in future as many developmental projects are on the cards to reduce traffic. If you hate traffic then curse yourself that you have added headcount in Bangalore. Respect locals for tolerating the traffic without complaining. They were never used to traffic. We brought it with us.

    Perception

There is no hatred in Bangalore for people from North India. I repeat, “There is no hatred in Bangalore for people from North India”. It is at best a perception that few people have due to their preconceived notions or a few bad experiences.

Few locals might have grudge against people from North India. In case you have some bitter experience, sit down and think why they hate you. Remember they don’t hate you but if they have offended you in some way. Then, it might be retaliation. Have you offended the locals, their culture, their values and/or their language?  If we mock Bangaloreans then we have to face the music. You will also do the same if they come to your home and mock you. Am I right? Trust me, my cousins and brother  who stay in Bangalore tell a different story. They tell me “How Bangalore is so friendly? People are warm, kind, courteous in general”.

Some tips that can make your stay memorable at Bangalore or anywhere

Every place has something unique. So, rather than comparing the customs of locals with our own, we should learn more about them. The more we know them, the better we feel about them.  When you give respect to others, you will get respect from them. People don’t expect you to offer any monetary gifts. Only a smile, few encouraging words, genuine appreciation will go a long way in building relationship.

Learn at least a little about the local language rather that cribbing that the locals don’t understand our language. If you are going to Germany or France, you need to learn German and French respectively to experience their beautiful country.

Similarly, we can learn a little about the local language to interact with people. It will make you feel the togetherness with the place where you are living. If you speak even imperfectly then also locals will feel proud that you are taking initiative to learn their language. Don’t you feel happy to see a foreigner speak Hindi in a funny way? I just love when they speak in Hindi. Speaking in someone’s mother tongue is a way of showing respect to them.  My roommate is a south Indian and we feel proud when he speaks in Hindi.  When he can learn Hindi when in Mumbai, others can also learn Kananda if they are in Bangalore.

Learn to respectfully disagree- Difference of Opinion doesn’t lead to argument or hatred. I don’t like cooking done in coconut oil but love cooking done in Mustard oil. My roommate is from Mangalore and he just loves cooking in coconut oil but dislike Mustard Oil. So, we use sunflower oil for cooking. I would never criticize and humiliate him that “How you could eat coconut oil. We use it for our hairs.”There is always a two way effort to build friendship or relationship of any kind.

When in Rome, Be a Roman-Don’t do it to please someone else but to truly soak in the experience you get in life. Don’t be a Tourist but a native and feel the bliss. I am a Marathi in Mumbai, was an Oriya in Bhubaneswar and a Rajasthani in Kota.  When you feel like that then you would be in a better position to appreciate the locals. People complain in and around me against Marathi people thinking of gaining support from me. Sadly, they end up getting some free lecture from me. And, there are no arguments as I know how to avoid it. You need to attack the key issues not people to create an impact. (Please don’t check it through your comments, I don’t reply to negative comments :P)

Make Friends who are Locals, Be courteous. Walk the extra mile. Respect local people, their culture, festival, cuisines and language. It will make you experience with them memorable. People reciprocate what we give them. So, always offer good things.  Also, take care of the impression you give to others. You represent not only yourself but your culture, heritage and family values. Don’t earn a bad reputation. Some people will be always there to create trouble; they are not north Indian or south Indian but just miscreants.

Bangalore is a beautiful place. Bangalore is the gateway to a dream world. My cousin was jobless after graduating from a college in UP. He got a less paying job and within 2 years, he got a big switch to one of the best Product Based companies. He is leading a respectable life in Bangalore and I have always heard good things about locals from him.

They love to celebrate. My brother told me that Ganesh Puja is celebrated on a grand scale in Bangalore. But, one friend told me that he didn’t feel that bangaloreans celebrate Ganesh Puja.  He ends up comparing as he expects the locals to celebrate a festival like he does. You can see the difference in opinion. People need to know the local festivals, cuisines, and culture else they end up cribbing.

The locals are your host. Be a good guest and they will amaze you with their love, care, affection and hospitality. They are also Indians and follow the same principal of “ Atithi Devo Bhava” ( Guests are God).
PS- Always feel that every nook and corner in India is your Home, we are a guest when we visit our relatives and loved ones. Be worthy of a Guest who can be admired. There is always a perfect way to give back to the place that hosted you.

Love you Bangaloreans… Someday I would move to Bangalore and this answer is dedicated to the place which I would love to call my Home.

When someone calls me good, it doesn’t means that I am good but it certainly means they are good!

When I call someone bad, it doesn’t means that they are bad but it certainly means that I am bad!!

Shivani Yadav : The brave heart fighting blood cancer

She graduated, got a good job and was engaged to a handsome and loving guy.

What else she wanted, not blood cancer for sure, not blood cancer, the very next day of her engagement.

Dedicated to a girl who is fighting blood cancer

She is a 23 year old girl working as a Software Engineer at Cognizant in Pune. She needs 51 Lakh for her operation. She has got donations worth 14 Lakh through Facebook and Milaap. The individual support is overwhelming but still short of the target.

This girl is not my sister, not my friend and I didn't knew about her till yesterday. There are many who get deadly diseases. I am pained every time I see something like this but she brought tears to my eyes and this is the first time that I have decided to go out of the way to do whatever I can do. I am not selfless but selfish as I see her as very relate-able. My family is insured by my Employer. I thought I am secured. I was stupid to think that 4-5 Lakh of annual hospitalization cover is enough. So, I am baffled and disturbed. I am so concerned and disturbed about her well being because
    • She is a college senior of my brother, who is not earning as he is still a student but is collecting funds for her. When he told he raised 4000, I felt the pinch and decided to jump in and help her in cash and kind.
    • She is working in Cognizant. My sister is placed in the same company few days ago. Now, this girl looks like a sister whom I have to help.
    • Her Fiance is a Mechanical engineer, so am I.
    • She is just 23. She has to live and experience many things.

What is the one wish you want to get?

I wish to get a Time Machine, so that I can go to my childhood and relive those beautiful moments with my parents, siblings and old friends.

When I will go to my childhood, I want to again climb on a tree to pluck Guavas. I would watch Mooglie (cartoon) on that Black and white 14'' TV set. I would love to meet the Icecream sellers again. I loved the orange candy, it tasted amazing. I miss that now. I forgot my first day at school, I want to see how I looked on that day. I want to meet the Rickshaw puller who ferried us to and from school. I want to see a Circus, haven't seen them for years. I want to study under a Kerosene lamp, one more time please. I want to catch some mosquitoes and put them in a transparent jar. I want to go to my best days one more time. I want to make paper boats again. I miss that rented house in which we  lived for years. I miss my colony where high rise  meant 3 storey. Now I stay at 17th, its so far from where my heart is. Please let me go. I want to play cricket on the road, one more time. I would get back soon after eating from the road side vendors. They tasted amazing. I have not been to them for years as now it can make me ill. I have become sophisticated, but, I don't like it. I want to drink water from that handpump which was in our compound. I don't want to eat on a dining table. I want to sit on the floor and eat with all my family together, one more time.

Please get me a Time Machine and take all that I have :(
