19 Things that make me happy

We all want to be happy in our life. But, happiness cannot be a goal. A goal must be something which is more tangible and measurable. Happiness is just a perception. There have been studies in the past which proves that happiness is neither related to money nor health of a person, provided they have the minimum level of health and money to lead a modest life.

But there are things which make you happy. I am sharing the list of things which brings me to life; I would love to know about what makes you happy. Do mention about that in your comments.

19 Things that makes me happy:

1.     Reading Books - I am an avid reader. I love to read good books. They take us to their own beautiful world. I like books of various genres like adventure, fiction, self-help, biographies, classic, business, management, non-fiction, etc. I have read lots of books but my top 10 favourite books are The monk who sold his Ferrari, The Old man and the sea, Wings of Fire, The Alchemist, Blink, India Unbound, Corporate Chanakya, Rich Dad Poor Dad, The World is Flat, The diary of a young girl . I have started to write about my learning from the books I have read. (Click on the hyperlink to view the leanings from respective books.)
2.      Writing- I love writing because it De-stresses me. I practise it as a writing therapy and to understand my thoughts and introspection. Apart from this, I like to write about all the things which fascinate me like my other hobbies and interests. These days I am passionately blogging and am enjoying it. You can read about 6 things i learned on my writing spree.
3.     Joy of Giving/Social Work/Volunteering- Somewhere I read that when your income increases then don't spend the extra amount completely on enriching your lifestyle. Rather, spend a bit more on causes you believe in. I don't want to elaborate much on this because charity, whether in cash or kind should be done selflessly and not to grab attention from others. ASCI has featured me as their Ambassador to acknowledge my volunteering works to combat misleading advertisements on Television.
4.      Nature- I am a nature lover. I love all that is natural, be it trees, grass, plants, flower, birds, animals, sky, earth, moon, sun, the universe and humans, of course. I really love the chirping of birds. If we pay attention to our surrounding then we can find many things which are beautiful. We don't need to sold our possession and go to an exotic place to feel the nature. We only need to slow down a bid and enjoy what we are doing. I have slowed down to figure out 22 things which fascinates me.
5.     Morning Walk- I am not much into physical exercise. So, walking comes to me as a natural preference to keep myself fit. Walking is one of the best exercises and if you do it in the morning, you feel the scenery of the surrounding. When most people sleep , you can go out and feel the heaven.
6.     Surfing Internet to Know or learn something new- Surfing Internet is normally considered a pass time generally done for entertainment, but if done effectively can help you learn many things. If you want to brush up an existing skill or learn a new hobby, you can find some good website or blog and learn what you wanted for free. Now, ignorance can be converted into new learning in  just a few clicks. Just couple of days ago, I didn't knew anything about Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but I surfed the internet, found a very good Presentation (PPT), I studied it and watched some youtube videos and got a reasonably good amount of idea about SEO. Websites like Coursera provides a platform where you can do a course online from the professors of best Universities and that too from the luxury of your home.
7.     Photography- I am a amateur photographer and I really enjoy taking photos of nature. Who are not these days? I want to learn the nuisance of photography and shall update you more about it.
8.     Travelling- I love to travel. Thanks to my parents that I have explored most parts of India and few countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. I plan to explore the road less travelled. I want to do some adventurous trips in future. Read about my maiden trip to South East Asia in my post " Travel Diary: Once upon a time in Singapore"
9.     Food- I love eating good tasty & healthy food. I really feel happy if my stomach is pleased. Also, I cook occasionally. For me, cooking is like an art, as we are creating something.
10. Lift someone’s spirit - Nothing makes me happier that lifting someone’s spirit. I often interact with colleagues, friends, family who are feeling sad or are going through a tough phase in Life. I believe that helping others really help me overcome my insecurities and  my fears. Learn How to stay motivated at all times.
11. Art and Craft- I am not good at art, craft and similar art forms. But, good art work really touch my heart. I admire people who are good artists and crafts-person.
12. Making Lists- I am someone who is so much fond of lists that you can say that I am obsessed with lists. I prepare lists for literally everything. If you will go through this blog you will know about my love with lists. I have list for shopping, travelling, study, office, to-do, reading list, writing list, learning list, and the list of my lists are endless like 6 things I learnt on my writing spree6 Practical tips to start a blogChallenged myself to write 111 posts in 30 days7 Tips to a Startup Entrepreneur5 ways to be in Present moment and so on.
13. Mentor someone - I am eldest among my siblings. So, mentoring them is something which I am doing for past 15 years. One key thing I learned while mentoring is that role of a mentor is not to spoon feed everything. Rather, their role is to inspire and kindle the flame of learning. Once the spark is ignited in the mind of your pupil then they are going to excel in their chosen field. Learn Lessons from a bad Mentor to be a good mentor.
14. Watching good movies & documentaries- I am not a regular movie-goer. But, I really appreciate good cinema, documentaries and short films. These act as a mode of entertainment, learning and motivation.
15. Playing Table Tennis/ Badminton/Cricket- I have played and enjoyed playing these 3 sports/games. Apart from these, I liked to play chess and carom. But, I get the chance to play all these stuffs occasionally. Now, gaming means all about playing mobile games.
16. Gardening- For me gardening means purchasing flower pots from market and planting flowers in it through someone. I don’t know much about gardening. But, I would love to do proper gardening at some point of my life.
17. Home Decoration- People get bored with their old furniture and they purchase new one. Seeing this trend grow in my hometown, I decided to get furniture remodeled in minimum cost, also I found that if you shuffle the location of your furniture then the look and feel of your home gets changed and trust me you will love this idea by which you can get a new look without spending a penny or by shedding a paltry sum. I have shared the pictures of my experimental home decoration at my post Jugaad- A way of Living.
18. Reduce- Reuse- Recycle- I am more of a minimalist as I believe in simple yet decent living. It’s my personal choice and I respect different viewpoints on this subject. I try to follow the principle of reduce, reuse and recycle in my life.  I will write in detail about this afterwards.
19. Spending quality time with family and loved onesI have kept the best for the last. I love to spend quality time with my family, friends and loved ones. It is really the true investment of our life. Happy Father's day, Dad!

Time Management Tips

I love project management and would like to share few lessons from it to answer this question.

  • Optimize-I would always try to optimize time and quality.
  • Time is more than Money- Time is equivalent to money, sometimes more important than money because I have to spend more money to accelerate a project that is delayed.
  • Do it now if it takes less than 5 minutes. If something is important and it will take less than 5 minutes like reviewing important reports or sending important work emails or paying my bills then I will never leave it for future because this step will cut down my to-do list and makes my life easier.
  • Tame an elephant when it's a kid-Never keep important things pending and do important things before they became urgent. A small problem if ignored at the initial stage can become a monster that will haunt you.
  • Make To-do Lists-However, there are always some of the things that we have to keep for future due to shortage of time. We can do them by making a To-Do List and having a target date for finishing it. Always review your list and keep striking out thing that you have finished. If you develop an habit of doing so often then you will find it easy afterwards.
  • Think out of the box- I love commuting for an average of 2 hours per day. I enjoy it because my company takes care of travelling, so I can do many things while having a cosy seat. I have so many things to do like relax, take a nap, listen to some audio books, watch a movie, listen to music, taking to old friends, checking out social networking sites, etc.

How to get quora answers published in TIME, Fortune, Forbes, etc like Balaji Viswanathan

I know the answer. Bingo! But, you have to read till end to know the answer.

Is Balaji Viswanathan lucky?

Yes, he is!

He is lucky because he has sharp memory, good reading speed, good command over language to explain complicated things in an easy way. The analogies he uses are just awesome.

Three months ago, I joined Quora and in no time realized that he is the man whom I should follow to broaden my horizons. He is staying in US but is more updated about the pressing issues of India than many of us. He is at ease at many things so varied like History, Geography, Startups, MNCs, Human Behaviour, Job/Career Guidance, Entrepreneurship, Programming, etc.

He is so lucky. I don't feel jealous of him. Because, I know how he got lucky.

Because, I know how to get published in TIME, FORBES,etc.

He is lucky because he works hard. He is a published author because he works hard, really hard. He is disciplined and self motivated. He is on quora for many years and is contributing constantly. It reflects his level of commitment. He writes quality stuffs. He entertains while explaining the most boring topics. He even upvoted couple of my really long, boring but helpful answers. So yes, he has patience, also.

Above all, he is a master execution specialist. He gets things done. When you keep learning and writing high quality stuffs that helps the readers immensely then sooner or later you will get published in TIME, FORBES,etc.

LUCKY THINGS HAPPEN WHEN WE KEEP DOING MANY THINGS!

All the best :)

  • Do some physical activity.
  • Start Morning Walk/Jogging
  • Go to a park and Listen to chirping of birds
  • Watch kids playing and remember your childhood
  • Spend some time with old people. They feel lonely as everyone is running their own race and they are often neglected. Talk to them.
  • Go out and explore the world
  • Do some offline volunteering/join an NGO
  • Visit an orphanage
  • Go to a Temple/Gurudwara/Church/Mosque as per your choice and sit there for sometime.
  • Play with a cat/dog in your locality

How to get funding for your startup?

Question: How can I get in touch with big companies like Softbank or great persons like Tata to get funding for my startup?

My Response: Here it goes... Ask yourself these 3 questions?

  1. What is your startup all about?
  2. Why you are here in the market with a new company? Is there a deficiency in the market ? What is your USP? How are you different from the existing players?
  3. Explain how you can offer better product or services at better price.
Once you know the answers to all these questions then,

  1. Make a Professional Business Plan
  2. Prepare a presentation
  3. Take baby steps
  4. Don't think to get funding from Tata initially
  5. First try to create something worthwhile and make someone interested to fund you.
  6. Read more from the article 7 Tips from a Startup Evangelist to Budding Entrepreneurs

Learn from a Startup Evangelist - How to Start a Business from Scratch?

Take off your Dreams         Photo copyright @ RohanSinha
I have prepared this list for someone special who is smart, intelligent and daring. It really needs lots of guts to think to break the stereotype and take the path less traveled. All the best!
  1. Develop your Idea- Identify a potential business idea. Make a business plan to see all aspects of your idea.
  2. Research the Market- Understand the current market, your competitors, their strengths and weaknesses. Identify how you can stand out among so many competitors.
  3. Identify your USP- Where the market needs meet your passion then that is the right opportunity for you to bank on. It is very important to identify your USP and build your business around it.
  4. Planning – Make a Business Plan, Create your Vision Statement and get clarity of purpose. It will come handy when obstacles on the way will distract you from your aim.
  5. Government Approvals/ Registration- For starting a company you mainly need four things. You have to register with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Then you have to get Service Tax and VAT registration. You will require Current Bank Account prior to registering your company.
  6. Execution/Operation- Starting a company is easy like buying an elephant. The difficult part is to feed the elephant, i.e. run the company successfully.
  7. Finance/ Billing- You have to arrange for the initial finance. So, have to plan for that. Also, arrange for billing of customers.
  8. Customer Support- You must retain old customers by your impeccable product and services. Delight the customers so that they can be your brand ambassador.
  9. Marketing- Bring new customers through word of mouth publicity. Don't spent a penny on marketing initially and rely on social media for creating awareness about your product and services.
  10. Lessons to learn if you want to start a business: Keep learning while you build your business. You must be aware about the things which are going on in your Industry. Always strive to acquire more information and knowledge.  Stay hungry stay foolish!
  11. Get Set Go – If you have a passion for running a business then please start it now. Do not procrastinate. Today is the best day to start your business. Make conscious efforts to overcome all thoughts that are misleading you into believing that you cannot be successful. Just imagine the thrill of following your passion.
  12. Have Patience. – Anything worthwhile requires time, effort and dedication. Never expect to be a one stop solution provider for the entire world overnight. Don’t get into the number game. It doesn’t matter that how many customers you have but, it really matters that you leave no stone unturned to delight your customers. You don’t have to do anything more than being passionate about your work.
  13. Enjoy the journey – You are here to stay. Don’t be in a hurry. Make a solid start by creating a strong foundation. Money should be the by-product of all your hard work as an entrepreneur. Keep the passion alive always. Successful people have one thing in common that they are truly passionate about their work.
  14. Let people know that your Company exists – Although, it is not a very important thing while you are building your company brick by brick.  Rely on word of mouth publicity as a medium of spreading the good work that you are doing.
  15. Build your reputation- Earn the trust and reputation of your target audience. Business is all about Trust. If your customer starts trusting you then no one can stop you from doing wonders.
  16. Losing small battles to win the war- You have to sacrifice small things to pursue big things in life. Stay focused on your goal. Obstacles are such frightful things that we see when we deviate from our goal.
  17. Find a Mentor- A mentor will help you to be on track and stay focused. You can learn from their expertise and skills. You can consider someone you admire as your mentor.
  18. Respect People and be a better human being- Always focus on what can you offer, rather than taking. Be good and generous to others.
  19. Do networking and learn from others- Don’t shy away from building your contacts with all the people who can provide you valuable insight about your business. Change your Perception about yourself

·         Why are you not feeling happy, positive and energetic? Do you really feel boring & uninteresting? Think.
·         Make a list of all the things that you love doing. After that, make sure that every day you do something which you enjoy doing.
·         Cultivate a hobby and pursue it to feel good about yourself.
·         Life is beautiful, even a stone at the top of a mountain has some purpose. You too are beautiful like everyone else.
·         Identify what is good about you. Bank on your strength and work on your weaknesses.
·         Keep writing about different things which fascinate you.
·         Find a mentor or a role model and learn from them.

Enjoy your life & don't worry about what others think

·         I doesn't matters what others think about you but it really matters what you think about yourself.
·         We are bothering about what others are thinking about us. Most of the time they obsessed with other things and don't have any time to think about us.
·         Be a better version of you with each passing day.
·         Consider yourself as a Product like whatsapp- It is all about evolving with time else we will be obsolete.
·         Most important thing is that you should build wonderful relationship with your near and dear ones and most importantly connect with your inner self.

Keep Learning and engage yourself in doing positive things

·         Bring the change that you want to see in your life. Make a list of things you want to work upon and then religiously work on it.
·         Keep learning new things, you can learn about a different country, their culture, traditions, etc. You can learn a new language or acquire a new skill
·         Keep challenging yourself and push your limits.
·         Take the road less traveled.
·         Live life and not just exist. Stay hungry stay foolish. Life is too short to be really serious about it.
