Travel Diary: Once upon a time in Singapore

Once upon a time I wanted to be a Photographer and a Travel Blogger. Luckily, I have written something about our maiden trip to South East Asia. I am taking it out in its original form. You will see more posts about my travels and places I have explored. I love travelling. It takes us out of our comfort zones; it stretches our limits and let us forgets our day to day routine to truly relax and enjoy what life has to offer.

Now at 12:20 (IST) on 8th June, 11, I am on the flight for Bangkok from Singapore. I wanted to write about my travel and my experiences on a daily basis but I became busier in clicking pictures. Anyways, I had a nice time in Malaysia & Singapore. I have never dreamt of going abroad. But, Life is full of Surprises.

Yesterday, we have been to Sentosa Island in the afternoon. That is a wonderful place. We reached Sentosa Island via an ultramodern cable car. The city looks very beautiful from the cable car. It provides a bird eye view to all having a ride on it.  I think we need more than a week to explore everything which is in Sentosa.

In Sentosa, we had first explored the Wax Museum named “Images of Singapore”. It shows us how Singapore transformed from a fishing island to a Hi-tech country with beautiful Skyscrapers. The wax statues looked so natural and they were depicting the journey of Singapore from a fishing island to a modern picturesque country.

I love Museums and so I wanted to spend more time there. But no worries, Internet will help me in a virtual tour of this Museum. Then, we had been to the Underwater World. There we enjoyed the Dolphin Show. The dolphins danced and showed her other prowess to delight the audience.  In the Underwater world, we were moving on a travellator with glass boundary all around us through which we enjoyed the luxury of relishing the beauty of the exotic sea creatures so closely in their natural habitat.

After that we went for a half an hour show named “Song of the Sea”. It was first of its kind that I have ever seen. Seats were arranged on the beach and the setup resembled an open air amphitheatre on a sea beach. The show started in the evening at 7:40 PM (Singapore Time) and we were mesmerized with the light and sound effect. The laser light show blended well with the soothing music, the picturesque location and the cool breeze which made the show more memorable. The visuals were impeccable and we were completely awestruck. I must recommend it to everyone going to Singapore.

Yesterday, we went for Singapore City Tour. The tall and sky high buildings of Singapore were greeting us. I love greenery and Singapore is really very green. The country is really neat, clean and beautiful; we loved everything there. The same day we went on the Night Safari. Night Safari is a half hour tram ride in the Singapore Zoo. We got the real life experience of seeing many exotic animals in their natural habitat, i.e. the Rain Forest. It really feels great to have a ride in a forest and this night safari was simply mind-blowing.

So, it was a life time treat to come to Singapore with my Family. We came to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We knew that it was amazing to take a bus ride from Malaysia to Singapore rather than taking a Flight. So, we had booked a Luxury Bus from Malaysia to Singapore. On the way, we saw the beauty of this part of the world. It was one of the most memorable road trips of our lives.  One interesting thing happened in this journey.

It must have been half an hour of the journey and my brother wanted to go to a loo as he got call of nature. He went to the driver and he informed that a loo is some 12-15 kilometers away and the bus can be stopped then only although it was not a regular stop. I was laughing at the expression of my brother and can feel the relief he got after visiting the loo. I was informed that the washroom and loos were similar to the one we have at an International Airport. I hope that in our country also this kind of facility will be developed.

I have also felt that Safety and Cleanliness are given top priority in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The under-construction sites are operated in such a way that there is no inconvenience to the passerby. The construction goes on which making its presence felt. If I join L&T Construction, I will love to work here.

On the 3rd Morning we reached KLIA, Kuala Lumpur from Chennai, India. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is a construction marvel. On the same day, we headed to Genting Highlands. We covered first part of the journey via a luxury car and then, for the first time, we relished the experience of taking ride in an ultramodern cable car to reach our destination.

I liked Genting a lot and would like to go there again. The hotel we stayed there had more than 6000 rooms and would be definitely one of the largest hotels of the world. In Genting, our hotel has interconnected facility to Amusement park. The indoor theme park with so many people was a great experience all together. We had shopping malls with the hotels. I didn’t remember the exact number but more than 50 reception counters were there for check-in of Guests. It was such a happening place under the same roof and we had so much fun that can’t be expressed in words.  There is no difference between day and night at Genting. There was full on entertainment going on. A casino was also there in the Hotel but it was closed when we went and didn’t tried as we were already enjoying what was on the offer. Somewhere magic show was going on. It was a hotel where entertainment goes over the top.

We were fortunate that our close relative stayed in Kuala Lumpur. So, apart from our Itinerary, we have also explored places like Putrajaya and many other local places with them. Also, we went to their home and it was great to receive the royal treatment in Malaysia. Really, my relatives have retained their Indian Values and we all loved that. It was great to see that NRIs have great attachment with India and they follow what is happening in India more than many Indians.

We had extensively explored the city of Kuala Lumpur and it was also a very beautiful city. In Malaysia we got the opportunity to take photos with two newly-wed couples and it was like topping on the cake. Also, one famous road in Malaysia is there which has outstanding lighting at night. As per our itinerary, we were to see that at day time only but with my relatives had explored the beautiful buildings with different lights at night. In Kuala Lumpur, the Twin Tower was visible from our Hotel and we really enjoyed the stay at that Hotel also.  This is a journey we will remember for a long time. Let’s hope to have an amazing experience in Thailand at Bangkok and Pattaya.

To be continued……..
