I'm A Mechanical Engineer Who Is Jobless For 5 Years

I'm a 2011 batch Mechanical Engineer and I'm interested to help you. However, there are a lot of additional details that I would need to help you on this.
  1. You've always wanted a PSU job and giving 6 attempts for that is definitely not justified unless you work part-time or did get additional qualification.
  2. You've completed Masters but definitely not from a reputed Institute as you've not cleared GATE.

GATE Exam is not something that is prepared for so many years. Rather that telling you that you hold on to GATE for little longer, I would tell you to focus on your present. Any recruiter will have the certain questions in their mind while interviewing you.
However, be prepared to
  • Justify your gap- Give strong reason- No lies as you'll be judged and caught.
  • Mechanical Engineering is a vast field. There are many opportunities.
  • You can apply for the post of specialist officer in Banks. They hire Mechanical Engineers and is a PSU Job.
  • Prepare two-three subjects properly and brush your fundamental and get a job in the area you want to venture.
  • Focus on your industry- STEEL, COAL, CONSTRUCTION, POWER, AUTOMOBILE
  • Get some internship or high/low paying job where you can get some good experience. You cannot hold on to PSUs for your entire life.
  • Even after 10+ years of experience in Private sector, you can get in PSUs as per your experience later in your 40s.
  • Don't delay or procrastinate.
  • Don't crib about past.
  • Don't feel like a victim as you've done what you felt was correct.
  • Start creating your future by focusing on your present.
  • Joblessness is a part of life. Embrace it and feel free to talk about it openly like my own dear brother- Rohit Sinha who is gracefully sailing through the same phase.Seven Career Tips From This Guy  by Rohan Sinha on Career Consultant
  • No matter what happens, you can always make a comeback.
  • Have faith in your abilities. Nobody can help you unless you're self motivated.
