Tips for Off-Campus Job Hunting

Irrespective of when the company is hiring, an off-campus job hunt should start from this moment itself. My brother Rohit Sinha is looking for a job of Java Developer and I'm tracking his progress. He has grown by leaps and bounds yet falls short of grabbing the few seats that are available for a jobless pool of thousands of applicant.
It's a fierce battle which is like snatching food from the lion's mouth.
Rather than focusing on the time of the year when we should mail our resume, ask yourself the following questions?
  • Is your resume tempting for someone who gets thousands of application and has 5-10 seconds to get a feel whether they should shortlist/read your resume or not.
  • Do you have build network with business leader, employees who can help you know about an opening as soon as it comes.
  • Are you depressed? Stay motivated else you will wear out during the struggle. Keep yourself ready for the tough time ahead.
I would remind you once again that:
  • Campus Placements are over-hyped. Harvard or Cambridge Universities don't have this facility. Tell your neighbor who feels Placement is a benchmark of the quality of a college.
  • Campus Placements are convenient way to get a job. It saves you from the struggle of getting a job from off-campus. Good for people like me.:)
  • The struggle will make you stronger. You need to have patience and faith in yourself.
  • Unless you back yourself, nobody else can do so.
