My friend was asked in the TCS Interview 5 years ago that "why you want to join us as you are a Mechanical Engineer?". He gave some reasons but the HR was smart enough and he was too innocent to reveal that it was a back up plan.
He was of course not selected in TCS. No one likes to be a Doormat, right! He sat for more than 30 interviews after that but was unable to get selected.
Finally, on the last day of our college, he got selected in two companies:P
