Two kinds of people write short answers. One lot comprise of people who are not much into writing or are people of few words. They write short answers which often fail to garner mass support.
The another lot that write short answers possess great skill to write a smart and quirky answer which takes 10 second to read and make us smile, inspire us, connect with us and we end up upvoting, sharing and commenting on it.
But, If you are an average writer like me who lack the skills but has passion for writing then you end up writing long, detailed answers.
Outcome: The response on your answers is not upto mark.
Reason: Neither you are popular nor you have the writing skills to glue your audience till the end of your long answer. Hence, you have poor response.
Benefit: If you write passionately then you are destined to touch fews hearts. Don't get disheartened by the upvotes. There are many interesting answers on a popular question so people tend to upvote those answers which have the spark and your nice answer is left out. Accept it.
You answer is nice. It will get couple of thanks, personal messages but not a flood of upvotes and comments.
For flood of upvotes, you must be smart to write Quirky answers which connects well with the audience and make a strong point in shortest possible time and deserves appreciation. Now, this is a plain answer which will die unknown like my other long answers.
But don't get disheartened, everyday is a learning, read your own answers and edit them everytime you feel like doing so to make it helpful to those reading it. This community is going to thrive.
Be nice, Be respectful, you must not get embarrassed if your child read your answers on Quora after 20 years. That's why I keep editing my answers to make them stronger and better as I am learning and growing.
Why we should not attempt hard to write popular or short answers?
It requires real skill to write quirky answers, it's not that easy man! I tried and failed at that as well. But, by doing so, I learned to appreciate short answers which I earlier felt were overrated.
Always write passionately and the neglect will not hurt you. Try to keep learning and someday your long as well as short answers will create a buzz alike. But, don't get tempted to write popular answers. Write answers that can add value to the experience of those reading it till the end. As a writer, think about creating a positive impact and not to worry about your personal gain or recognition.
I don't make a living from writing as I have a well paid job to fill my tummy. These points are for those like me.
